What is Volksmaster Smart Repair?

SMART stands for Small to Medium Area Repair Technology. It repairs the damaged part of a panel and blends the repair into the surrounding paint, rather than repainting the whole panel.

Where the damage is more serious, our body workshop can repair or repaint the whole panel. We assess every repair before any work starts, so you get the most suitable and cost-effective solution.

Do you still offer mobile SMART repair?

No. The mobile service has stopped and every repair now takes place at our Oldham workshop at 179-185 Hollins Road, Oldham, OL8 3DF. Workshop conditions are controlled, which gives a better finish than a driveway, and bad weather no longer cancels bookings.

What damage can you repair?

We repair scratches, scuffs, stone chips, cosmetic dents, bumper damage, peeling paint and kerbed or scuffed alloy wheels. Our body workshop also handles larger jobs, including accident damage and full resprays. We take on most repairs, but we don’t repair cracked or split plastic and we can’t take on write-offs or major road collision damage.

How do I know whether I need Smart Repair or the body workshop?

Our team assesses the damage when we quote and recommends the best option.

• Smart Repair suits isolated chips, minor dents, scratches, bumper scrapes and alloy wheel scuffs.
• The body workshop handles deep panel damage, large-scale accident damage and full-panel paint restoration.

Insurance work is handled in the same way whichever team does the repair.

Is SMART repair cheaper than a full bodyshop repair?

For small damage, usually. Only the damaged area is prepared and painted, so it takes less time and less material than refinishing the whole panel.

Can you help with a car I’m returning at the end of a lease?

Yes. We can assess cosmetic damage before you return the vehicle. Send us photographs for a free quote so we can discuss the work. See our end of lease repairs page for more.

How long does a repair take?

Most cosmetic repairs are completed the same day. You choose a drop-off slot of 8am to 10am or 10am to 12pm, and we tell you when your car is ready to collect.

Timescales are estimates. We confirm yours with your quote and update you promptly if anything changes.

Please collect your car within 24 hours of being told it is ready. Storage charges of £25 per day may apply after that.

What if my repair takes longer than a day?

Larger repairs, including full resprays and accident repairs, can take longer. We give you a timescale with your quote, and we offer courtesy cars to take away the inconvenience. Ask when you book in.

Can I have a courtesy car?

Yes. Courtesy cars are available at £18 per day if you need transport for daily use. Ask us when you book in.

Which alloy wheel damage can you repair?

We repair kerb marks, scuffs and corrosion on painted and diamond-cut alloy wheels, using the method that suits each finish. Send a photograph of the complete wheel and close-ups of every damaged area so we can confirm the finish and the repair needed.

Cracked or buckled wheels may not be repairable. If yours isn’t, we will tell you.

What does an alloy wheel refurbishment include?

Wheel refurbishment is cosmetic. Tyre removal, refitting and balancing are included in the price. Centre caps aren’t included unless agreed and are charged as an extra.

For the best finish we recommend refurbishing both wheels on the same side of the car, as a single refurbished wheel can show a slight colour or sheen difference next to the others.

Is there a warranty on repairs?

All workmanship carries a lifetime warranty for the duration of our trading life. It applies to the original customer and original vehicle only and is subject to the exclusions in our terms and conditions.

Parts and goods we supply are warranted for 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. Alloy wheel refurbishments are warranted for 6 months.

To make a warranty claim you need your original invoice. Your statutory rights are not affected. Full details are in our terms and conditions.

How do I look after my repair?

Don’t wash your car for three days after the work is completed and avoid acidic or corrosive cleaners, including alloy wheel cleaners. Washing too soon or using the wrong products can invalidate your warranty.

What should I do if I have a concern after my repair?

Contact us promptly with photographs and your repair details so we can assess the concern and arrange an inspection if needed. Please have your original invoice to hand.

Can I claim on my insurance?

Yes. We handle insurance work as well as private repairs and deal directly with insurers, so mention it when you ask for a quote. A deposit or advance payment may be required for insurance repairs. See our accident repair page for more.

Which vehicles do you repair?

We repair cars and vans of all makes and sizes, with no size limit. Volksmaster is a VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) specialist, but we work on all vehicles, and we also run a dedicated Volksmaster Van Centre.

Do you work with business fleets and leased cars?

Yes. Our business sales team manages bookings for companies and has experience of insurance repairs, accident body repairs, cosmetic repairs on cars being returned at the end of a lease, van body repairs and fleet repairs. How do I get a free quote?

Send us the assessment form with photographs of the damage and your vehicle details, or WhatsApp us the photographs. Quotes are free and carry no obligation.

How much does a repair cost?

Every repair is priced on the damage, so we quote after seeing photographs or the car. As a guide, our prices start from:

• Scratch or scuff repair: from £234.00
• Small dent repair: from £252.00
• Bumper scuff repair: from £192.00
• Bumper respray: from £324.00
• Alloy wheel refurbishment: from £78 per wheel (diamond cut from £114.00)

The cost of a full respray depends on the model, so we quote each one individually. Prices include VAT unless stated.

What photos should I send?

Send a clear photograph or video of the whole affected panel or wheel, followed by a close-up of the damage. The wider shot and the close-up together let us quote accurately.

How quickly will I get a quote?

We pick up quote requests on working days and reply as soon as we can. Replies may take longer at weekends and on bank holidays. Sending clear photographs and all your details together helps us assess the repair faster.

Can I include several damaged areas in one quote?

Yes. Send photographs of every panel, bumper or wheel you want assessed. We review the complete job and explain what can be fixed. We normally offer a discount when several areas are repaired together.

Can the quote change after inspection?

Possibly. A quote based on photographs depends on how clear they are and the information available. If inspection reveals hidden damage or a different condition, we will revise the work and the price. We will always get your approval before any additional chargeable work.

Can I book before you have assessed the damage?

We suggest a photograph assessment first, so we can confirm the repair is suitable and prepare a quote before arranging an appointment.

How can I check availability?

Availability changes as appointments are arranged, and your booking is only confirmed once agreed directly with us. Send us the assessment form or WhatsApp us and we will contact you shortly.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:30pm. We are closed at weekends and on bank holidays.

What if I need to change my appointment?

Call or WhatsApp us as soon as possible so we can discuss the change.

Can my alloy wheels be repaired during a bodywork appointment?

Usually. Send photographs of both the bodywork and the wheels when you ask for a quote. We will assess the whole job and confirm how long it will take.

What should I do before I drop my car off?

Remove all personal belongings. We take reasonable care of your car but can’t accept responsibility for items left inside. Please also bring your locking wheel nut key, and bring the car clean, without polish or wax on the paintwork or wheels.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfer, debit or credit card and cash where agreed, and offer finance through Clearpay and Klarna. We don’t accept American Express or cheques. We confirm the options for your repair before you pay.

Payment is taken at our workshop, as there is currently no online payment option for Smart Repair. Payment in full is due before your car is released, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.

Can I spread the cost of my repair?

Yes. Once your quote is agreed, ask to use Clearpay or Klarna at the workshop. They let eligible customers split the payment into instalments, and the provider shows your options before you confirm. Our finance options page has the details, so you can review them yourself.

Are Clearpay and Klarna guaranteed, and who manages my instalments?

Each provider makes its own eligibility and approval decisions, so we can’t guarantee a particular option will be available. Availability, repayment terms and any charges are set by the provider, which also manages your payment plan, repayment dates and account. We manage the repair.

Is a deposit or booking fee required?

A £25 deposit is required on all bookings. It is refundable as long as our cancellation policy is followed. A larger deposit or advance payment may also be required, particularly for insurance or non-standard repairs, special-order parts and work over £500. We explain any payment arrangements when we confirm your booking.

How are refunds handled?

We don’t give refunds on completed work. If a warranty claim is accepted, we resolve it by reworking the repair, and your statutory rights are not affected. Your £25 booking deposit is refundable as long as our cancellation policy is followed.
