Audi’s Place in the Volkswagen Group
Audi is one of the three major premium car manufacturers from Germany, alongside BMW and Mercedes. Unlike BMW and Mercedes though, Audi is part of the Volkswagen Group (VAG), which includes Volkswagen itself, as well as Seat, Skoda, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti.
Audi Service Genuine Oil
It is, by some margin, the biggest automotive group on the planet, and Audi is their premium mainstream manufacturer. Because manufacturers share platforms and parts inside the Volkswagen Group, a lot of the stuff you see on high-end Audis you also end up seeing on Bentleys and Lamborghinis (engines, infotainment systems, etc.).
Audi Car and SUV Naming Convention
Audi’s naming convention follows a simple pattern: cars start with the letter ‘A’ followed by the number indicating their segment (higher is bigger), and SUVs start with the letter ‘Q’ followed by a number. As you can imagine, the A1 is their most compact city car, followed by the now-defunct A2, and their best-seller, the A3.
Likewise, the Q2 is the company’s mini SUV, but they are working on a Q1 at the moment. The Q3 is a subcompact luxury crossover, followed by the mid-size Q5, and the full-sized Q7, which is also available as a seven-seater. Last year Audi rolled out the Q8, a coupe variant of the Q7, to rival the likes of the X6 and the GLE.
Yellow Audi Q5
The A5 is a coupe/convertible based on the A4, and it’s the same story with the A6 and the A7, but they’re slightly larger and are direct competitors to the E-Class and the 5-Series. If you want Audi’s largest and most luxurious car, you’ll have to step up to the A8.
Audi Sport: Performance Division
Much like BMW’s M and Mercedes’ AMG division, Audi has an in-house performance division called Audi Sport, formerly known as quattro GmbH (it caused confusion with their Quattro all-wheel-drive system). They take luxurious but ordinary Audi cars and transform them into genuine monsters with supercar-like performance. Some of their greatest hits include the RS3, RS4, and RS6, but their most popular product is the Audi R8.
A genuine supercar which can be driven daily come rain or shine, it is one of the most desirable cars on the planet. It uses the same V10 engine as the one found in the Lamborghini Huracan, but the first-generation Audi R8 was also available with a V8.
Servicing and Engine Reliability
With such a wide lineup, servicing mostly depends on each individual model. RS variants and the R8 are obviously going to be more costly to run since they use performance components, but on the whole, Audi cars are widely regarded as being some of the most reliable luxury cars money can buy. Servicing and maintenance go a long way when it comes to reliability and preventing deprecation.
Audi Engine
Audi’s smallest 1.0 and 1.2-litre TFSI engines are the cheapest to run and service since they’re the least complex. Petrol engines ranging from 1.4 to 2.0-litre share a similar structure, so they’re relatively easy to work on. Most Audis you see on the road are diesels, but there’s a very good reason for that.
Apart from the fact that they’re extremely frugal, Audi’s diesel engines (up to 2.0-litres) are shared with Volkswagen, and are probably the most bulletproof engines fitted to any modern car, of any type. The slightly larger 2.7 and 3.0-liter are V6 units and are more powerful, but surprisingly, not that much costlier to service.
Common issues include diesel particulate filters with older cars, but all diesels suffer from DPF issues as you rack up the miles. Besides that, your Audi shouldn’t give you a lot of worries. Servicing should be performed by experienced technicians, especially if you need a cambelt and a water pump replacement. Digital Online Servicing
The Digital Service Schedule is the new way of recording and protecting your Audi/Volkswagen service history. All vehicles built from November 2012 onwards will now have their entire service history stored electronically in a secure online database.
Volksmaster will provide you with a print-out of the service record each time you visit.
The Digital Service Schedule has many advantages over the traditional paper service record including:
- Access to the full service history for the life of the vehicle from any Volksmaster Centre
- A security code which can be verified by any Audi Centre to provide added reassurance when buying or selling a vehicle
- Protection against forgery or the records being lost
- Proof of service work to protect your warranty
Maintaining a full and up-to-date service history which is trustworthy and accurate will help preserve the resale price of your vehicle.

Simply drop your car off with us between 8am and 10am and in most cases your vehicle will be ready for collection the same day between 3.30 and 5.30. Outside these hours you are welcome to park.

If your vehicle needs to stay with us for 1 day or longer then you are able to pre-book one of our courtesy vehicles to keep you mobile.
Pick up / drop off (5 mile radius)
The ultimate hassle free solution; one of our drivers will arrange to collect your vehicle from your home or place of work at a pre-arranged time and then return your vehicle when the work is complete. Our service advisors will contact you when the vehicle arrives on site during the day to discuss the progress of the work and then advise you of the time you can expect your vehicle back.
